Kidepo Valley National Park offers excellent wildlife viewing throughout the year.
November – January (Dry Season)
The dry months provide the best game viewing opportunities as animals gather around water sources. During this period, visitors may witness some of the largest buffalo herds in Africa, along with exceptional predator sightings.
August – September (Rainy Season)
The park becomes lush and green, creating spectacular scenery for photography and birdwatching. Although tall grass and muddy roads can make wildlife viewing more challenging, animal sightings remain rewarding.

Wildlife Around the Lodges
One of Kidepo’s unique attractions is the abundance of wildlife around its safari lodges. It is not uncommon to watch elephants, buffaloes, zebras, and occasionally even lions from the comfort of your accommodation.
Among the park’s famous residents is an elephant affectionately nicknamed “Bull-Bull” by park staff. While he is often seen near the lodges, visitors should always maintain a safe distance, as all wildlife in Kidepo remains completely wild.
Bird Watching;
With nearly 500 recorded bird species, Kidepo Valley National Park is Uganda’s second-best birding destination, surpassed only by Queen Elizabeth National Park.
The park is particularly famous for its dry-country bird species, many of which are difficult to find elsewhere in Uganda.
